Have Risc6000 with 5.1L amd 4.3.1 Operating system. On different days at differnet locations I get a partial reboot at the CPU.Sometimes the console monitor stops at "cron may not be running". I can turn monitor off and back on and find that it has really booted up. Other times I have to reset the machine to get it to fully boot up. Any suggestions as to what could be causing this partial reboot?

Nothing on the lED and there are no entries logged in the errpt. The only message is on the console monitor screen that deals with the cron may not be running.

to troubleshoot I'd take all entries out of inittab that are not needed.

leave only the entries that contain

init
brc
cons

See if you can boot up normally after quite a few tries. Then (if you can) slowly add entries to see if it is hanging on something.

Hi brdn

Did u check for cron process prior to rebooting the server?
If it is running ...fine ..if not start the cron and reboot..
Just to see the impact of cron as that message is displayed
while booting...Give a try! This is not complete solution..!
A part of analysis of the problem...
