Ok, I started to install xp on my brother-in-law's laptop. He does not have an internal cd, so I brought an old backpack external i have. Anyway, the laptop had ME on it so I was going to upgrade to XP for him. A little into the install the CD rom decided to stop working (a whole other story). So I decided to cancell the instalation, and seeing that I hadnt formatted or fdisked or anything yet I would just be able to cancell and go on using ME. This did happen, however, whenever he turns on the laptop, he gets the boot menu. The 2 choices are continue instalation or boot to me. How do i get rid of the option to contue the instalation? TIA

You may be able to use the System Restore program in ME, otherwise you may have to delete the reference to XP in the Boot.ini file on the ME drive.

Unhide Hidden Files and Show all System Files to locate the Boot.ini file in ME (Root of Drive), edit via Notepad to remove the XP entry. Copy or backup file first before editing.

HOW TO: Edit the Boot.ini File in Windows XP (Q289022)

The above article is a guide only and not applicable to ME.
