Can anyone share info or reference as to data mapping on US Driver
Licenses? Also, if you know of a reader(s) you can recommend, that
would be nice.

I bought an M310 some time ago but it comes at a heavy price and the
software (veriscan) is too limited for what I wish to do (being a
programmer I became an instant critic).

I found
but I cannot understand how the delimer fields that are of "variable"
length. I am not even sure ALL US Licenses are compliance to AAMVA as
per linked document.

Thank you all in advance for your assistance!

No, this document does nothing for what I am looking for. It appears that that there is very little known or available to the general public on
a) Data contained within driver licenses
b) format in which this data is recorded
c) mapping of said data within mag strip and/or bar code
d) field delimiter (field separator, record separator ...)

The link I provided on my original post is of an AAMVA document which details standards for ID and DL designs but it appears that NOT ALL STATES adhere to these standards. The document tells you that some fields are of variable length but it does not tell you what marks the end of a field.

I have found a number of scanners/readers that claim to have built-in software; I already have one of them, the software sucks! I can and would like to write my own code but to do this, I need to know what I am facing as far as data specs (a-d above).

Thanks for the link anyway ... still looking.

Regards,

i found other documents too, but those were subscription only.

I hate the "pay me first attitude" for information that should be available to all ...

That being said, I would not mind paying if the information helps me fill the void currently killing me or keeping me from developing the code I need.

could you please post link?

Regards,
