Hi guys,

Is there any way to create a Paragraph style with all Fonts specifications except the font style? I mean if it normal, italics or bold.

The thing is a have a long document with many italics in it. When i copy and paste I would like to have all text as Body Text Stlyle, Adobe Garamond, 10 pt, etc but without tell in if it italic or bold.

Sometimes i other works i do select a paragraph and when i apply to make it a Paragraph Style it has many features but not the Kerning of the Family Style, for example. That is why i am asking that.

Thanks for any info and Cheers,
Sebastian

Hi Eugene,

Thanks for the tip as usual, but this just leave it blank does not work when creating the Paragraph Style. I send you an image of a Body Text with both Regular and Italics in it. The style is Body text but it won´t let me leave it blank in Regular.

What am i missing here?

Thanks and cheers,
Sebastian

...i think eugene may have been referring to character styles as opposed to your question on paragraph styles...

...a character style can be font independent, so long as you use a font that has the style you have activated in the character style...

Andrew

So if i understand right i might make a character style font independent and later base a new Paragraph Style in the previous Character Body Text?

But if Paragraph Style always need the font to be bold, italics or regular, i could not do that. Is that right?

Is there any other way then?

Thanks,
Sebastian

...a paragraph style can control paragraphs that have mixed fonts styles, this is indicated by the + symbol (mixed overrides) next to the paragraph styles name...

...if you cleared the overrides then your paragraphs become the same font style as that indicated in the paragraph style...

Andrew

...if you have an italic character style used in a paragraph, then you don't get the mixed overrides + symbol...

Andrew

Thanks for the info Andrew!

I will try to see how can i fit those two concepts in what i try to do which is giving a whole long document text a style that has a unique font like Garamond but contains all italics, bold and regular in it. The Paragraph style has more to do with having all Body Text easily reachable for future changes.

Cheers,
Sebastian

the easiest way to do what I think you are doing is to do a Select all. (command+A) or (control+A) you then apply the correct paragraph style.

You will notice that in the character window both the font and the fontstyle (italic, bold etc) are blanked out. this is because there are multiple fonts in the document.

You then have to fill in the correct font while making sure the font style (italic bold etc) remains blank, like the image below:

Hi Marcus,

I did not see you tip before. Thanks, that is good info! I will try and see what happens.

but... if i select all and apply a specific paragraph style this will overide any italics or bold fonts or not?

Cheers man,

No, it won't it will apply the correct font in you para style.

it will however put a little + next to you Paragraph Style name in the pallet window.

This only means that there are italics or bolds in the para you are changing.

I forgot to mention the previous post that when you choose you font in character window (like in the picture) you have to type it in.

if you try to select it using the drop down menu it forces you to pic a fontstyle like roman or italic...this is not what you want

Type it in...

I see that is what makes the difference now.

Thanks again for the good tip!
