i have a partner II system (or was that a partner plus) with an expansion cabinet (4.1 sounds familiar, definitely not an ACS).

currently i use a partner mail 3.0 (6 port) If I choose, can I put a old VS mail or a new partner messaging voicemail in the expansion cabinet?

If it has an expansion cabinet, it is a Partner II. If it is a 4.1, Partner Messaging will work fine. It it is an older release (and I can't remember the rev. level off the top of my head), you need to stick with external Partner Mail, because the time won't sync with the Partner II (Partner Mail has its own clock).

Hi jsaad,
TouchToneTommy is right, I think Partner II V4.0 is the minimum for time sync. I'm so spoiled with ACS enhancements for voicemail. The Partner Mail will allow you to autodetect fax CNG tones and route them to a fax extension automatically. I don't think Partner Mail VS will do that.

time sync is not a concern (i think).

i just wanted to know that i could put the vs mail in an expansion cabinent and that there is NO rule that you must have the mail in the main cabinent or that it is not advisable to do so?

you can put the VM in the expansion cabinet no problem, just make sure that you have at least 3.1 revision,if it is lower than that then you will have a problem with time Sync.Just make sure that you don't have any empty slots before the Vm.

Good Luck.
