Does the old Partner Mail R1 ( the old metal box on the wall ) have a battery on board to maintain the date and time when the power goes out?

Yes, but any Partner Mail lower than R3 is not Y2K compliant. The year will default back to something like 1988 any time the Partner Mail reboots. Only fix is to put it on a battery backup to prevent power outages.

So an R1 has NO battery on board?

Yes, there is an internal battery inside that voicemail system.

Exsmogger also mentioned that the R1 is not Y2K compliant.

If the battery needs to be changed out, the system's date will default to the 1980s.

As exsmogger mentioned, it might be a good idea to power the phone system off of a UPS to minimize the effects of commercial-power outages.

My thought would be to see if any other type of Avaya voicemail system [Partner Mail VS or Avaya partner Messaging] will work with the existing system and upgrade.

Thank you. This one is doing just fine. Can you tell me were to locate the battery, how to replace it and will I be able to find a replacement from a place like Refurb Supplies?

have you tried looking ?

Ive never had a need to replace one .

take the cover off and look at the MB , should be soldred there somewhere just like a computer battery.

if your lucky it will be slide in that you caan replace with the power on

I do wonder if you would lose cmos settings that would make the vm non functinal.

I wouldnt mess with it on a system I wanted to keep functional

if it where me I would buy a 1200-1500va UPS

I have a 1.9 here so I just popped the cover , there is a silver "kyorca "item in the middle of the MB that may be a battrey .

other wise I didnt see anything on the MB that looked like a battery .

it might use a CAP instead .

buy a big ups ..
