I would like to create a parameter in my subreport that would accept the parameter values entered by the user when the report is ran. What do I have to do to have this parameter be visible in both the main and the sub-reports and prompt the user to select the value of the parameter? Thank you everyone.

Create the parameter in both main and subreports, and link the subreport parameter to the main report parameter. One prompt for both, and you can use the value in either.

Once you have added both parameters, select the subreport and use "Edit - Subreport Links". Select the main param in the top list and the sub param in the lower list.

I'm encountering a problem in the linking of the parameter fields between sub report and container report.

I have created the parameters in both a sub report and container report and linked the parameters through the edit sub report links function.

When the parameters are linked, the sub report is not displayed. It is almost as though the parameter fields are physically linking in the same way as a database would, rather than passing the parameter from the container to the sub report. When I break the link, the container and sub reports generate correctly.

All I'm trying to do is utilise a parameter field to pass a report name, that the user can specify from the container report to all sub reports.

Check the select expert in the subreport.

You may have unintentionally allowed Crystal to add a selection rule based on this field. In some versions this is the default so you may not have realized this would happen.

Delete the rule that was added, and use the parameter as you would otherwise.

Sorry to be a pain but this one doesn't seem to want to die.

I did some experimentation on a newly created report and the parameter field worked. I then tried recreating my report and encountered the same error with the sub report not being displayed unless the linking to the sub report was broken.

In vain I went back to my blank report and discovered the same issue.

Doing some more digging I found that the sub report was being displayed on the container report but that it wasn't being generated. I could double click on the sub report and it would generate and if I export the report the contents of the sub report were shown in the export, but in preview and hard copy, the sub report is not generated.

The parameter seems to be passed to the sub report and it seems to be an issue with the generation of the report. I thought intitially it was the sub reports being set to 'on demand' but the option is switched off.

I've seached both the container and sub reports for record and group selection criteria created by the sub linking process and can find no formulas.

Any help would be appreciated.

Does this mean that the new report you created worked and then developed the same problem?

You have a certified weird one, but here are some troubleshooting questions:

When you made the link and the subreport vanished, how was the parameter field being used at that time?

When you broke the link, did you get a prompt from the subreport parameter upon refresh?

What section of the report is the subreport contained in? Is this section hidden or conditionally suppressed? The only time I have seen info export but not print, is with conditional suppression. Ken Hamady

I CREATE A CROSSTAB TABLE

6/16/02 6/23/02 6/30/02
CRITICAL 20 30 10
MAJOR 20 40 40

I NEED TO CREATE A LINK FOR A DATA FIELD SO WHEN USER CLICK ON THE LINK IT WILL SHOW A DETAIL REPORT
EX: CLICK ON 20( 6/16/02,CRITICAL) IT SHOW 20 DETAIL OF 20 RECORDS.
DO YOU HAVE ANY SAMPLE?. THANKS
