Hi all. I would like for my user to be able to enter a paramteter (date range) for the report I'm building that will be installed on their desktop using the Report Distribution Expert. Any clues? I know you can do this in CR somehow. Thanks

Insert - Parameter field for StartDate and End Date.
Use the parameters in the select expert. Date is between Start and End. Ken Hamady

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I need a little more direction. I tried to do that but I'm not having any success. I'm pretty new at using CR, so I apologize! :)

thanks,erin

Use Insert - Parameter field to create two parameter fields. Make them each DATE or DATETIME depending on what your data field is.

Once they are created use the Select expert to add a new rule for the date field.

Field is Between ?StartDate and ?EndDate

The parameters should appear with the dates in the drop down. Ken Hamady

Ken,

Ok, I got the parameters ok, now it's another problem. My field on my report is a string, but there's a date in it. For some reason, when I create the report from a query, it converts the date field in my query to a string field. So, I am trying to do some sort of function like String to Date() to convert the user entry to a date, as well as the date field to a date from a string. I looked through the functions, but I couldn't find one that would convert a string to a date. I found tons that would convert a date to a string however.

Is it a DateTimeString?
Crystal converts MS Access Dates to Strings.
The function in this case is DTStoDateTime() and it is found in the "Additional" funtions at the bottom. Ken Hamady

Ken,

The DTStoDateTime worked like a champ. :) Thanks so much for all your help.
