Parameter Query Wildcard doesn't work

When prompted by a parameter query, how would one search for items that start with (example) lam?

I have tried:

lam*
lam%

like "lam"
Like "lam*"
like "lam%"

None of these work

I think the papameter would have to look like:
Like "" & [Enter: ] & "*
