Does anyone have a suggestion for the following parameter issues?

We’re using CE 8.5 & CR 8.5. Both soon to be upgraded to 9.

1. We have a number of reports, where the parameter is a default list of codes (eg project codes). Users typically do remember the codes. We want to allow them to enter a description (or part thereof) instead into a string parameter (eg enter part of the project description), and then have CE/CR display another parameter list of Project Codes and their Project descriptions that satisfy the string originally entered. The user then would select one of these Projects, and this parameter value would be passed to the report.

2. We have a number of reports, where parameters have a list of default values. We want this list to be automatically updated overnight. The list exists in a database. Currently the list of default values in the CR parameter, does not change unless manually updated and then the report republished to CE.

I suggest you build the parameters pages using .csp or .asp. Then one you have the responses from the end-user, pass these to the crystal report, either via form variables OR the url.

They both have created software that gives you dynamic parameter selection and also the ability to pass parameters to a CR based on another field.
