Looking for a better way to handle updating my report. My report has 16 running totals. 4 in each, GF1, 2, 3, and report footer for current month and prior year month. I need to enter the same date in 8 of the RT's for the current month date and the same month date for the prior year in the other 8. 4 of the totals are for the sum of sales and 4 are for the costs.

Is it possible to use 2 parameters instead that the running totals can call when running the report?

Please let me know if further explanation is needed.

Thanks,

Bill V

If I try to use the parameter as the formula in the running total I get an error:

"the result of a formula cannot be an array"

Perhaps the syntax is wrong, or it just can't be done?

Explain why you are using running totals for sum. I assume your running totals are evaluating on a formula. Showing the formula here might be helpful. Also explain the make up of the parameter. Its a date I assume but are you allowing range values?

Well... since I'm evaluating the sales and costs for different time periods without using a sub-report I need to use a running total. The report layout is as follows. The values for each group are next to each other on the report.

GF3 - RT (sum of sales current month) By Customer
GF3 - RT (sum of sale prior year/month) same

GF2 - RT (sum of sales current month) By Master account
GF2 - RT (sum of sale prior year/month) same

GF1 - RT (sum of sales current month) By Salesman
GF1 - RT (sum of sale prior year/month) same

Running total for current month formula (on change of customer id):
{invdth.idhdat} in Date (2009, 10, 01) to Date (2009, 10, 28)

Running total for prior month formula (on change of customer id):
{invdth.idhdat} in Date (2008, 10, 01) to Date (2008, 10, 28)

There are several other fields on the report using running totals for the cost calculations. I left these off as this should explain the functionality.

For the parameter, I was trying to use dynamic - date - allow ranges.
