Hi,

Has anyone else experienced Crystal 8.5 crashing when trying to modify a Parameter? Over the last few months if I try to modify a parameter setting in v8.5 I get the standard Windows program error with the "do you want to report the error etc" message and then Crystal shuts down. My IS dept have cleansed my profile (!) and even reinstalled Crystal; this seemed to work for a few days but the problem is back. I get the same error if I try it on a colleague’s machine and if I run it using v10.

Any suggestions gratefully received!

If the OS is crashing, make sure that you post which OS you're using.

Are you stating that any report with a parameter crashes in either CR 8.5 or CR 10? If so, it sounds like you need a new IT department.

I would guess that what you're trying to say is that you have a, or a few reports, which exhibit this behavior, which could mean file corruption, and was common on CR 8.5.

If you're running CR8.5 on XT, make sure that you set it to Windows 2000 compatible.

There are other possibilities, but you're experiencing system crashes without sharing your OS, and vaguely stating when and to what the erros occur.

If the above doesn't resolve, please post specific information as responding to intentionally vague questions is far too large of a subject matter.

Hi -k,

Thanks for responding. I wasn't being deliberately vague; the problem (I think) lies in Crystal not the OS, which is XP, and it is Crystal that crashes not the OS. I have several dozen reports but not all of them use Parameters, those that I use regularly that do have them are crashing (Crystal not the OS).

From your post you say that v8.5 had a common problem of corrupting files; what are the symptoms? And that XP (I assume that is what you meant by XT?) should be set to Win2k compatible - this I can check next week.

Why would you think that I was being intentionally vague? I'm desperately looking for solutions so if I've missed any necessary detail I'm only willing to give it if I can.

Many thanks.
