Parameter Compare and generat error

I have a pair of date parameters which prompt the user for a Start and End date. They are choosing a text string e.g "Start of Last Quarter" or in putting a date ( 01/01/2007 ).
I want to be able to compare the two parameters to ensure start is before end. If it is not, I want to generate an error message.
