parallel printer stops printing

Dears,
I have got a problem while using 6400 printer on parallel port of an old RS6000 machine .... it is running AIX 4.1.4 and the printer works ok while serially atached ( obviously slow ) however when it is attached on parallel port ,,, only first page of printout comes out... print is clear and fine but it prints only one page....
There is no change in default characteristics of printer


Any ideas!!!!!
