I'm installing Openserver 6 on a Dell Poweredge 840. This machine does not have an onboard parallel port. I've tryed to install a Parallel card in the existing PCI slot but have had no success. I've tried with two different brands, NetMOS and ITE. According to MP2 the card should appear by itself, but it is not. I install it manually, but the only information I can get from the BIOS, is the assigned IRQ, and then my only choce is 5; not 7. I've tryed usend adress 278-27f but no luck. Is there an especific brand that will work in UNIX?

PCI Parallel Port cards are not supported at this
time. These cards will be supported with the release of
SCO OpenServer 6.0.0 Maintenance Pack 2 (MP2). Please
refer to the MP2 release notes for details on how to
configure a PCI Parallel port card into your system.

1) Turn off the server and insert the parallel port card
into the system.

2) Power on the server, enter the BIOS setup and take a
note of the parallel port card IRQ and IO address
settings.

3) Boot the server, run the DCU(ADM) and select:

Software Device Drivers -> Miscellaneous -> mfpd

and use "F5=New" to enter the appropriate values for the
device

4) Return to the DCU main menu and select:

Exit the DCU and Apply the changes

5) Edit the file /etc/conf/sdevice.d/lp using your
favorite editor and change the line that reads:

lp N 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
-1

to

lp Y 1 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
-1

6) Run the following commands to update your kernel and
reboot your system:

# cd /etc/conf/bin

# ./idconfupdate -f

# ./idmknod

# ./idbuild -B

7) Reboot the system

You should now find that the system will have created all
the lp(HW) devices necessary to use your parallel port.

I've already installed MP2, the bios only tells me which IRQ the motherboard assigns to it, not the IO address. I've manually assigned it IRQ 5 he motherboard in hopes that assigning IO address 278-27F might work, but it doesn't

You may inspect the output of the hw -r pci command.

Hope This Helps, PH.

I've looked at hw -r PCI, but I am not really sure of what I'mlooking for in there

What are the infos gathered for your parallel card ?

Hope This Helps, PH.

The only info that the bios gives me is the IRQ. It auto assigns IRQ 10 to the card. Other than that, I have no other info

I talked about the output of the hw command I suggested you.

I'm just guessing here:

resmgr key=51
vendor id=0x9710=unknown vendor

command regisgter=0x103=I/O Acces Enable,Memory Access Enable,System Error Enable,
status register=0x280=Fast Back-to-Back Capable, DEVSEL# timong=medium

I'm guessing that this is the entry for the card, but I don't understand what all those numbers mean.
