Everyone,

I have a pc that is connected to a kodak i840 scanner. There's a dongle that has the license to run the software on the pc that connects via the parallel port. This afternoon for (for some strange reason) the dongle burned out. It smells as if it short circuited, and it doesn't work anymore. Has anyone heard of anything like this or similar. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

things do sometimes burnt out, specially when they are very small with thin wiring close together. For some reason i overheats and starts an internal fire of sorts. Not really a fire i suppose but overheating, burning, smoke, and broken.

Its likely broken beyond repair. Maybe you could open it up and have a look?

Also, maybe you can get a replacement dongle?
google it, perhaps?

The parallel port does still works, Ironically.
