I'm using InDesign 2.0.2, with Font reserve, and OS-X.2.3. Halfway through big job and my paragraph styles have gone haywire. I select text, click (even Opt-click) to apply style, and it brings in a font, size, baseline shift etc from somewhere else. I check the style sheet itself and everything's as it should be. Tried ditching the prefs, closing and re-opening InDesign. Help!

Character styles and paragraph styles can conflict. Make sure you do not have a rogue character style applied to the paragraph style as well.

Thanks Jimoblak. Strangely, shortly after I posted my query, made a coffee, and went back to the keyboard, my InDesign para styles worked perfectly. I don't know if this fits with your suggestion of rogue character styles conflicting with para styles – how do I identify a rogue character style? Maybe such a conflict would act irregularly? I can't identify anything else I did on the Mac that might have got rid of the problem. (I've always felt you don't just use a Mac, you have to intuit with the damn thing...)

Maybe my terminology was wrong... When I say 'rogue', I do not mean a program error. I mean a common error where the user will try to apply a paragraph style and a character style at the same time - - resulting in odd behavior. Any style appled over another style would be considered 'rogue' in my book.

I don't think it's rogue styles – this wouldn't cause an intermittent problem. I wonder if it's the result of having too many apps open at the same time? Not a convincing answer, though. But thanks again for your help.
