We have recently migrated W98 to W-XP, including 10+ users of a Paradox for DOS 4.0 application.

We are experiencing problems (20+ per day) where XP loses the network connection (XP shows that the network drives are not available and oftens reports a "Windows delayed write failed" message). Paradox hangs, and causes all other Paradox users to hang. Close Paradox down on the problem XP PC and the other Paradox users spring back to life.

Having looked through this site, we have found some useful information (many thanks). Does anyone have any similar experiences and/or advice?

We have the option to back out of XP for these users, as the Paradox app is due to be replaced within 6 months.

Many thanks

Phil

Phil,

The usual things.

1. Turn off opLocks on the server as well as the workstations.
2. Turn off 'Write Cache' on the Hard Drive on the server as well as the workstations.
3. Ensure that the network card settting does NOT allow the OS to put the network card to sleep (to conserve energy).
