help needed please!

I support a company that uses a paradox database. They have paradox 8 runnning from a shared drive on the server. clients windows xp home (not my doing i may add, previous it guy blunder)

I have installad a new pc with xp pro. I installed paradox from cd. setup the mapped drive. copied a short cut from one of the other clients and put it on the desktop.

the other clients work perfect but when i run this one it comes up with

"error in qlocate unable to open tcurser"

any ideas anyone?

It sounds like maybe that system doesn't have the same aliases defined.

Will Paradox itself open?

If so, go into Tools | Alias Manager and compare one of the operating systems to the one that won't work.

Add aliases that you see on the working ones to the non-working one.

Be sure to know if the aliases are public or not, and copy exactly.

And let us know whether this is it, please.

Hi i am going back today so i will give this a try. Paradox does run but after that error message you can only go into design. it brings up the correct page exporter.fsl but only so you can change it and not use it.

thanks will give that a try and let you know

I think Tony is on the money here.

You might also look at the command-line in the shortcut you copied to see if a specific idapi configuration file is being loaded. If so, make sure the new workstation has access to the directory where that file resides.

Mac :)

I checked the aliases and they were the same, i couldnt work out, what i did was the trial and error method.

I copied the shared foler in c:\corel\suite8\ of a working machine onto the broken one and hey presto!

obviously to do with a config file or the idapi as suggested, thanks for all help. My next step would have been to run filemon and regmon to see where it was accessing.

That's pretty weird.

What *files* are in that directory, and what subdirectories do you have?

I have P8, and there are NO files in the SHARED directory.

What IS weird is that I have a 'Componts' subdirectory of SHARED, and some sub directories of that. When I click on one of those subdirectories, Windows Exploder takes me to 'Desktop', and absolutely refuses to display anything in any of those subdirectories.
