I feel ashamed to ask for your help, but I have a problem I don't know how to solve:

I work with paradox 9 under windows 95. All of a sudden, the speedbar and the buttons at the top have dissappeared. It is not possible to get them back with the pull down menu. Any suggestons?

I've had this problem before, and I think I found a way to restore the speedbar in a document on the corel website. I couldn't find anything now though. Even reinstalling Paradox didn't help.

You say it's not possible to get them back from the drop-down menu? That's strange. So when you go to View->Toolbars do you get any type of error message?

Mac :)

Nope, no error message. I'm (almost) certain this is a well known problem.

Thanks for your quick response!

Jan,

I can think of a few possible ideas:

1. If you just tried to apply service pack 1, reboot and then reinstall it. (Remember to *always* reboot before installing a service pack, especially if you've just (re)installed the software.)

Corel modifies core Windows support files and that only happens during the startup sequence. Since these changes assume that all previous changes have been properly applied, they are not cumulative. Meaning, you always need to restart Windows between each step.)

2. I've heard that some people are able to work around this by copying CRLUI90.DLL from the CD into the \\programs directory. However, if you do this, be sure to clear the read-only attribute of the DLL by right-clicking it in Windows Explorer and then choosing Properties from the shortcut menu. (Files copied from read-only media, e.g. a CD-ROM, are automatically saved as read-only on your hard drive. This can cause problems when trying to apply service packs later.)

3. You can also try moving the PDOX_EN_FULL_bars.cfg PDOX_EN_FULL_sbar.cfg files into a different directory and then restarting Paradox. This seems to have had mixed results. If it doesn't work, then exit Paradox and restore the old ones. You can find these files in /programs/config.

4. Finally, make certain you have the SP4 version of Paradox 9. You have to order this from Corel as a replacement CD because they never released it as a separate service pack, but there were some changes in the handling of toolbars and so forth in at least two of the service packs. I believe SP4 also included some important fixes for printing as well.

If you order the SP4 CD set, take a few moments to write SP4 on the envelope and the CD using a permanent marker. That way, you'll know which set to use should you need to reinstall in the future.

Also, before installing SP4, completely uninstall your existing version. (Yes, this means you'll need to reboot again.) I've found this to be the most effective way to make certain that the latest and greatest is installed as accurately as possible.

As far as I can tell, this was a problem for the initial version of Paradox 9, one resolved in service pack 2. If you've recently had to reinstall, then you problably need to either install the available service packs or obtain the SP4 CD I mentioned.

Hope this helps...

Lance, you're the best!

Nr. 2 did the trick for me. Thank you!
