Hi all (And Tony) . . .

I have a number of questions and concerns.

1> Current Version of Paradox? (9?)

2> Will Paradox 7 and 8 run on Windows XP Professional SP2 installed by computer maker?

3> I hear that Paradox will no longer be upgraded and possibly no longer supported by corel?

4> Tony - do you also work with MS Access, and if so, what are your ( or anyones) thoughts for that matter on migrating to Access? Do you advise for a MS Access forum also?

I just feel that continuing on with an application that has a limited future is fruitless.

Thanks . . . Rick

Current version of Paradox is 11. Do NOT go past 10.

7-11 run as well on XP as on anything else.

No more upgrades _planned. With us here (and elsewhere), why are you worrying about Corel?

No, I don't touch anything MicroSoft but Windows unless a specific project requires it in conjuction with Paradox work. Well, and they make a good optical mouse :) .

All applications have a limited future.

Reports are that both Paradox Windows and Paradox DOS run well under Vista.

Hi Tony - yes I also follow Paradox on the Paradox Community site. It's the best one.

And while I like the fact that these sites are most advantageous, Im beginning to have problems with hardware and some software.

I tried to load a new Logitec mouse and keyboard yesterday but it would not operate on Windows 98 which I'm still using happily.

I'm afraid that in future Windows operating systems a time will come when todays software will not operate fully on them at all.

Microsoft - I have the same bad taste in my mouth being forced to do it the Microsoft way but at present they have us by the goNads!

Vista, haven't heard of it!

I don't know where you find the time to reply so often on this and other forums Tony but it sure is appreciated by me.

Thanks again Tony. Rick

Windows 98?

Well, you should be at Windows 2000 AT LEAST. You can't expect the newest hardware to run/have drivers for something that is 7+ years old. It doesn't make the hardware manufacturers enough (if any) money, likely, to make it worth writing for that far back.

Vista is the supposed 'next generation' of Windows.

It was supposed to have all kinds of app killer stuff.

Not only is it going to be a year or two late, but it appears that it will basically be another SERVICE PACK for Windows XP.

So, use old hardware if you want to remain compatible with old OS software. I don't think that expecting new & old for that far back is reasonable. But that is just my opinion.

I suppose you're right.

I have my eye on a new dual core processor machine with 4 gig's of mem and two two-hundred gigabyte hard drives.

It comes with XP Professional installed and nothing else thank goodness. I hate all of that light software so many companies force you to accept.

This is why I was asking the questions.

As always Tony - THANKS MUCH!

Rick
