Hi Guys:
Is anybody aware of a problem with paradox 9 reading Oracle 8 on linux?
You chaps have been so helpful to me that I have written lots of apps for SCO/Oracle 7. Now I am upgrading and am getting connection errors. I just cannot connect to Oracle 8.
The BDE engine driver for Oracle picks up a dll referring to Oracle 7; but nothing for Oracle 8 Am I now in deep doggy doo?

THanks!

cobweb,

According to rumor, you need to configure your Oracle alias to use the correct DLL's.

I have heard that DLL32 needs to be set to SQLORA8.DLL and that VENDOR INIT should be OCI.DLL.

I cannot confirm those values myself, as I do not have access to an Oracle server.

Hope this helps...

Thanks as usual for your swift reply!

Could I please ask how exactly I do configure the alias?
IS it in the BDE?

Thanks!

Cobweb,

Under Windows, you configure the alias via the BDE Administrator in Control Panel.

Now, I've not used Paradox for Linux for a couple of years, so I don't recally precisely how to start the BDE Administrator, but once you've started it, you select the Databases tab to configure individual aliases and the Configuration tab to set default values for new aliases (see Configuration | Drivers | Native | Oracle for the appropriate settings.

Also, don't forget to Apply any changes made with the BDE Administrator; otherwise, they won't take effect.

Hope this helps...
