I can't figure it out.

I run the same program, based on the same table placed in the same report.

There are few calculations on each of the 109 pages. Nothing more than sum and average.

Paradox 7 screams to page 109 in less than a minute.
Paradox 8 takes almost 5 minutes.

I runs lots of reports. I want to use Paradox 8 but it's impossible.

Any solutions anyone?

Thanks . . . Rick

Just a guess: open the report and make sure it is using the DEFAULT Paradox 8 style sheet. Then save and run.

Make sure to keep a copy of the original, in case the style sheet for 8 creates problems for 7 (it shouldn't, but...).

Tony - how can I determine what style sheet is used?

I created the report in Paradox 7 from scratch. Did not use wizard.

When I edit the report in Paradox 8 I can't seem to find anything having to do with a stylsheet.

Thanks Tony.

Tony this is what the Help file says.

"Use this dialog box to associate a style sheet with a design document and to save changes you have made to design tools. Choose a style sheet from the Style list box and click OK to apply a style sheet, or click Save to save changes you've made to design tools.

There is no referrence to a Dialog Box that I can see.

Current Style Sheet

Choose the style sheet to associate with the form or report. The extension of the style sheet (.FT or .FP) depends on whether your design document is designed for the screen, or designed for the printer."

My report is designed foe the printer.

Thanks . . . Rick

No change what so ever.

Rats!

What else could it be?

Have other had the same problem?

Thanks . . .

"What else could it be?"

Specific to ver 8? No idea.

"Have other had the same problem?"

Never heard of anything specific to ver 8.

This is all on the same computer, right? (ver7 and ver8)

Yes, same computer. Version 7 is on Drive D and version 8 is on deive C.

I removed all of the calculation fields from the repport and told it to go to last page. No change, Still crawls.

I then copied the table and report to the working directory of Version 8. That made no diffeence either.

Strange.

Okay I created a new report in Version 8 based on the same table.

It runs even SLOWER than the Version 7 report on the same table?????

Yikes!

Tony - Okay I think I got it.

If, while in report edit mode, I select File, Page Setup, and then select SCREEN the report is even FASTER than inversion 7. Will this make printing slow. I'll check.

Yippieeeeeee . . .. .

You know I saw where you posted that to another user but couldn't understand what you meant by attached?

All of my printers are atached via USB ports if that's what you mean. Except for Adobe Acrobat Standard of course.

Now I'm haveing another problem. Some of the eight fields in the report are not showintg up on screen or in print.

I have selected pin horz and vert but it doesn't make a difference.

Ideas . . .

Now I have a problem. Installed Paradox on Drive D where version 7 is also.

If I try and launch either program I get a "Could not initialize Paradox BDE"

Sheesh . . . what now?

Rick

Enlarge the field - make it taller. Also, make sure 'word wrap' and 'fit height' settings match.

Attached - many times people have printers installed in Windows, then the printer goes away and the printer isn't removed as a printer from Windows.

Tony - After two installations of Paradox 8 all I can get is "Could not initialze BDE."

I completely uninstalled version 7 and 8. The Windows remove programs did not see either one of them.

This is turned into a mess.

Rick

Now I can open Version 8 but I get this error message:

"Cannot write to engine configuration file."

and this error message:

An error was triggered in the "save CFG" method of an object of Session Type."

I'm lost. Version 8 won't worki.

Okay . . I've got everything back together regarding Paradox Version 7 with my related folders and all of my files on drive D.

Can I install Paradox 8 on drive C: and point to all of my folders on drive D, including my PRIV directory and WORKING directory. I think I can set an Alias and Working directory on drive D, correct?

Will the two programs conflict on the same computer because of similar files, etc? BDE problems?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks . . . Rick

I have Paradox 7, 8, 9 and 10 all installed on C: drive.

There isn't any conflict, since they install to totally different directories, and cooperatively share the BDE.

Well, I can't run 7+other version or 8+other version AT THE SAME TIME.

Other than that, they reside together just fine.

Sounds like you had stray .net and/or .lck files - or they were being added on install (P10 did this).

PRIV, WORK and anything else can be on any drive you have...and can even point to UNC paths.

I'll try it Tony.

I like the interface of Version 8 and the printer function that versison 8 has as opposed to version 7. But over time, version 7 has proved to be quite stable.

Thanks again Tony. I'll load Version 8 this morning and se what happens.

Rick

Okay Tony. Successful install of Version 8 on the C drive.

I need to find a way to have Paradox 8 to ALWAYS look to my WORKING and PRIVATE drive on drive d:

I created and saved two new aliases for each, but each time I launch version 8 I have to redefine them.

Also, in the report design mode(version 8), when I select page-setup-screen (Remember this is what allowed the pages in the report to fly) I'm not allowed to select Landscape mode. If I leave the setting to printer it goes back to a crawl. If I allow the portrait mode it wants to delete everything outside of the report band, a no no!

Do I need to resave the report in Version 8?

Thanks . . . Rick
