Paradox 4.0 and W2K

My paradox application program has been running perfectly fine across a ms network with shared files on a W2K based serve and 98 based workstations. The application runs fine as a standalone on a W2K computer. However, it slows to less thjan a snail's pace on a W2K workstaion with a W2K server- the same app runs perfectly on the same network with the same W2K server off a 98, or ME station.
Can PDOX40 run a WINDOWS 2000 network?

I have heard of a couples of tips that might helps:

1. Run NUPDATE and make certain your network type is set to OTHER. (MS Networking wasn't available when Paradox/DOS was released, so it's not really configured to support it.)

2. Make sure you disable optimistic locking and write-behind caching on your server. Details are provided in

http://www.thedbcommunity.com/faq/29.htm,

though the Registry changes you'll need to make may be different.

Thanks for the quick rely.
I added the items you suggested to the registry and moved my network id into a seperate folder, but alas it didn't work.

I'm not looking to just tweak the performance: this application is at a standstill.

Again windows98 and windows ME have no problem accessing files on the windows 2000 server.
The application grinds to a halt running on a windows2000 station, but runs ok as a standalone with Windows2000

Is paradox 4.0 16 bit? Could there be a conflict between Paradox4.0 and windows2000 network drivers? It seems that the data stream is totally bogged down.

OOPS!
I just tried running paradox 4.0 on one of the windows2000 computers aas a standalone: and it also works slower than a turtle.

The configuration that worked was an application and paradox installed on a removable 100mb zip drive running on a windows 2000 computer. A one man business needed to be able to work at home or in his office. The removable Zip made it portable. The office computer was windows 98 the home was windows 2000.

Apparently paradox4.0 is having difficulty all around.
And so am I. Sorry for any confusion.

Richie,

Paradox 4.0 is a DOS application, meaning it's really an 8 bit application. Are you running the .EXE directly from a shortcut or are you running the .PIF file that's provided with the install? You should be running the PIF file.

You might need to adjust the Compatibility options for the .PIF file as well. (I don't have Paradox 4.0 installed on this computer, so I can't test this myself, but I've seen it work with other older programs.) To do this, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the directory containing the .PIF file, right click it, choose Properties, and select click the Compatibility tab. I've found setting the Compatibility mode to Windows NT 4.0 to be useful for many older programs. You might need to experiment with other modes to find the one that works best.
