Hi all,

I Have been running my business since 1990 using DOS 3.0 & 3.5. It seems time to enter the 21st century and switch to
PARADOX for windows. I have a copy of PforWindows 5.0 and
have noticed that it only suppports .BMP files, do later
versions support other graphics ie .JPG files? I seem to have read somewhere that v7.0 is a good choice?

Any thoughts that members might on my migration to PARADOX
for WINDOWS would be appreciated

If just reading .jpg is the goal, you can stick with Paradox 9. Not sure if 7 could read jpegs.

If you need to WRITE jpegs, then you need Paradox 10 or 11.

11 has had too many bugs for me to recommend. It is simply version 10 with a couple of service packs; which introduced more problems than they solved.

If 7 reads jpegs, and does what you need, 7 was a good version.

I went from 7 to 9, and have stuck with 9 since 10 didn't offer anything I needed. I BOUGHT 10, but don't use it other than to create delivered versions of the stuff I sell.

Paradox Windows is a completely different paradigm than Paradox DOS. Since Paradox and the BDE are DEAD, consider a conversion to Paradox Windows carefully before you make the leap. However, if PdoxDOS works for you now, likely Paradox Windows will work for you for many years to come. Just so you are aware before you make a decision, and can make the right decision.

Version 7 is ok. I frankly don't like 10, just because I had a lot of issues. Went back to 8 for most things. 8 offers a greater non geek simplicity for making queries, forms, etc. 10 is slicker, but with a few annoyance, which I frankly can't remember.

From the early P days I do remember a lot of problems which have been resolved beginning with 8. So 8, 9 ,10 - all fair choices. I wouldn't go earlier.
