This appears to be the most appropiate category for my issue. Forgive me if I am incorrect and guide me in the right direction (besides ScanSoft).

I have Paperport Deluxe 8.0 ( 8.0.0.238 )

I have downloaded SP1 from the scansoft site a couple times. I have attempted to install the service pack on Windows 2000, and 98 SE.

During the install process, it asks you to insert the original CD in the PC. I do so and it consistantly fails with a message stating it can not find 'F5612_ppscandr.exe' in the data.cab file. I have physically directed the install program to the MSI file it is looking for on the CD. Same directory as the data.cab file. I have copied the directory containing the MSI and CAB files to the hard drive, still failure. Unfortunately there is no way to direct to the file itself, only the MSI that I assume calls for the extraction from the CAB file.

I have looked in the CAB file, the file definately exists. So, I have tried unpacking and recreating the CAB file using 2 different types of compression and one with no compression. When I do that, it fails looking for another particular file that is in the CAB file.

I have uninstalled Paperport, tried running SP1 hoping it would do a complete install, but PP must already be installed. Still fails after re-installation of PP. Even tried booting in Safe Mode, the installer will not run at all.

I have tried this with different original Paperport 8.0 CDs, on different PC's and OS's. The manufacturer that distributes the equipment refuses to help because it is a service pack, not the original version they distribute. Scansoft wants $10 per e-mail support question.

Any help would be appreciated, Thank you,

I take it you absolutely need the service pack installed?

Scotsdude,

I absolutely would like this SP installed. Whether or not I absolutely need it that leaves room for question.

Our network scanner utilizes a couple extra options for entering data while scanning to a database. This data is embedded to the PDF file created. Paperport w/ SP1 is supposed to be able to read all the data entered at the scanner. Keywords (does it now), Author, Subject, Title, etc.

Even if it were not for that, curiosity would have me.

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply to this.

What version scanner do you have that the paperport software is connecting to?

zoeythecat,

This is a Kyocera Mita. Paperport 8 works just fine, however it is when trying to install the PP SP1 I have the problem described above.

Step 1 - Download SP1
Step 2 - Run the downloaded executable
Goes through the process from the executable.
At one stage, it asks for the original PP CD
Step 3 - Insert original PP CD, (looking for the PP msi file)
During this part of the process it fails. Can not find file in data.cab
No options are given to look for a different location for the "missing" file.
Step 4 - After selecting the OK message, it appears to remove the stuff from the SP1 exe. (backwards moving progress bar)

The original install of PP continues to work just fine.
