i have an HP laserjet 1100. The problem is that it grabs 3 or more pieces of paper at a time and then usually jams up. how do you fix this

I seriously doubt that it's being caused by the paper. This printer is nortorius for this problem, as is the 5L / 6L / 3100 / 3150 / 3200 Printers, as they are all of similar designs. The problem is in relation to you r seperation pad. It's worn or glazed and is not holding back the additional pieces of paper. You can order the parts direct from HP. I would also suggest replacing the sub pads since you are in the printer. HP part number is:

RF5-2886-000CN For LJ 1100 & 3200 Sep Pad
RY7-5050-000CN For LJ 1100 & 3200 Sub Pads
RY7-5077-000CN For LJ 5L/6L/3100 & 3150

The kist for the 5L contains both Sep & Sub Pad. The LJ1100 does not. They are seperate items.

There was a kit issued by HP free of charge for this, but I am not sure if it is still available, it essentia;lly consisted of a preformed & cut cardboard jig, that you inserted fully into the printer and removed a plastic strip, this put a sticky backed cork pad into place.

Walter.

I remember these kits. In fact, HP had 2 different kits. One for the 5L/6L, the other for the 1100. I ordered two of these kits for myself for curiousity sake. Never installed them, but then again, I was very familiar with the disassembly of both these products. So, I typically just replaced the sep & sub pads as needed. It gave me an excuse to tear apart the printer, and give it a good cleaning.

These kits are no longer available through HP. In fact, I don't even know where mine went. I've moved a couple of times since I recieved them. They're probably in storage somewhere.

I did use a couple and they worked fine, but you had to be quite precise in placing them. I knew a place I worked at, that had boxes of them. They may even still have them, it was a couple of yearas ago though

yes it's the pads that are causing this they are available through -- theprinterworks.com

RY7-5050-000 Subpad Kit, LJ 1100/3200 $5.70
RF5-2886-000 Pad, Separation, LJ 1100/3200 $3.80

good luck
