I need to be able to use colours that are part of my companys style guide. The colours are listed as pantone in the guide. I had a look through photoshop and found a list of pantones but couldn't find the ones I wanted. Also, there seems to be more than one kind of pantone - what's that all about then? As you can tell, I know nothing about this so please can someone explain it to me - pantones that is.

Thanx roda B-)

Ok so I found a list of CMYK colour in the style guide on the same page as the list of pantone's - DOH!!!

I'd still like to understands the pantones though as we do seem to deal with people that use this as their guide. roda B-)

Hi

Pantone is a system that ensures you of a certain colour. All printers in the world use the same pantone guide, and so you will nearly always have the same colour.
It also gives you the possibility to gave a document which is separated in CMYK to have an extra colour with only one extra print.

The different pantone books are for different kind of papers, coated - non coated and so on.

The printer will use the pantone code or ink on one of his printing drums and so you will have a specific colour.

Hope this is already a start.

With their rule guide there should be a # for the panatone colour (e.g. panatone 165 [Orange]). To get to this colour with the colour tool do the following:

1. Doubleclick the color boxes in the toolbox
2. Uncheck "Show only Web Colours" if checked
3. Select "Custom"
4. Select "PANATONE ProSim" from the dropdown menu
5. on your Keyboard number pad type 165
Your colour should now be set for that orange
for another colour simply type in the key number

Hope this helps

Cheers pistol, that is a good thing to know about. roda B-)
