I've been "learning" Illustrator for awhile, and have a small project but not sure how to go about it.

I need to create some text that appears as if a paintbrush stroked across the text from left to right.

The completed project will have a brush stroke as a background with the text over the brushstroke, looking like the brush had passed over raised text and applied the "paint" color to the white text.

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Ok
First Click and hold the icon that looks like a pen, while holding, move your mouse to the right until it highlights the little sliver area and let go. This is a tear-off.

Draw a line using any line tool. Make sure the line is selected, Open the brushes pallette and chose one of the brush strokes. Line should turn into that brush. Choose Stroke pallete to change the thickness.

Make sure the line is selected then go to the top bar of illustrator choose Object>Expand to turn the brush into an object with points. You can move the points around to shape your paint brush effect using the white arrow. You can edit the curves with the white arrow and the Convert Anchor Point Tool. (the carat looking icon)

Type your text. When satisfied go to Type>Create Outlines.
Position the text over the brush line and go to your Pathfinder Palette. Play with the buttons as one of those commands will create the effect you seek. Unfortunatley I have CS2 on an Intel Mini so I cannot replicate the process.
