I have a church that asked for help with their phone system. I do not usually work on Panasonics, but want to help them out.

They had 2 T7730 phones die over time. They took their barely used T7720 phones and replaced them. But due to spam calling, they wanted to get Caller ID again on those stations, so they ordered (2) T7737-B phones off of ebay. They plugged them in and they didn't work, so they put them in a box until a year later, then asked me for help.

They have a TA824 cabinet

A) The T7730 phone they do have works at it's location, and the 2 locations they currently have T7720 phones. These are the 2 locations the T7737 phones did not work at.
B) I took the T7737 phones to a local repair company in Tampa, and we plugged them in to their test KSU and both of the T7737 phones worked fine.
C) In the churches system, They LCD display does that "barely power the LCD squares, just enough you know it isn't unplugged" kinda like if you plug a digital phone into an analog station... The phones also illuminate the Number Pad backlight if you press any key, but the LCD screen stays off, and there is no "button" action, no dial tone when you pickup the receiver, no Illumination of any of the keys, speaker or line keys.

Does anyone know if there is a specific "firmware" you have to have on the TA824 to run T7737-B phones? They don't have alot of money, so I didn't want to have to get 2 more T7730 phones... They would be fine if I could find someone to "swap" T7737 for T7730 phones...

THank you so much for any help.

In your clarification B, was their KSU also a TA824 Cabinet?
If yes what was the firmware version of that KSU
What is the current firmware version of the Church's KSU

1) Check the cabling: T7737 is 4-wired PT.
2) Check the ports your T7737 are connected to. I don't know KX-TA824 system at all, but KX-TE824 supports PTs only at Jack01 - Jack16 (Jack17 - Jack24 support only SLT-phones).
3) Cabling distance can affect, because of KX-T7730 doesn't have LCD or Keyboard backlight. So try to connect T7737 directly to PBX-port.

Omonat, No, they didn't have a TA824, however according to Google searches, the T7737 says it is compatible with the TA824

I couldn't find anywhere stating a required firmware level to work just that it was compatible with the TA824. I will lookup the code to do a show firmware. But I am not sire what version I have to be at, does anyone know this to see if thisnis the issue or not once I know the level.

Tired. The cable distance of all of the ports I tested with was 75-110ft, so I don't think distance pushing the power was the issue.

I was trying the same ports that ran the T7730 (display version) and the 7720 (non display version) amd the T7730 phone works st all 3 tested locations, the t7737, none of the locations.

I tested the 2 vs 4 wire by using a single pair line cord, and none of the phones worked, so I assumed they all required 2 pair (4 wire) so troubleshot with that in mind.

Sounds like I need to find the firmware version if the church KSU and then see if I can find a minimum version required for a T774l37, I just don't know where to find that, my Google skills must be slacking, but I didnnot see that info in the only manual I could find on the TA824.

Thanks for your help so far
