Hi,

I have to install a new Laptop for my boss. One of the things he uses is 3COMs Palm VII with HotSync and Outlook. I am new to palms and I dont want to lose any of his data.
What should I consider before installing the palm on new Laptop. On the old one he has win2000 and on new one he will have winXP.

Thanks in advance!

Make sure you have the latest PalmDesktop software.

Recent versions are all 4.0.1, so if you do not get the latest (6/2003?) you could end up with USB hotsync issues like I had with XP and my Visor Deluxe trying to sync over USB. (I don't use Outlook, however, just the PalmDesktop.
If you're using some non-Handspring unit, I imagine it may be subject to similar issues. The following are for XP/Visor/USB issues specifically. Hopefully it's of some use.)

The one I just downloaded and that fixed my problem was PalmDesktop_401_ENG.exe at a filesize of around 12,117 KB.

This new 4.0.1 installation file will preserve the previous data in the old 4.0.1 installation. All the same, I would export (make sure to choose "all" over "selected" in each case) the address book, date book, To-Do items and memo's.

If the machine has automatic updates for XP, antivirus software and anti spyware software, you'll want this (or whatever) installation file to stay on the machine, as well as the registry cleaning utility HandspringUSBregCLean.exe, becauses at some point one of the updates may hinder sync'ing via USB on XP.

Here's the link info:

Download it here:

The old software had a filename PalmDesktop_401Hb.exe and a file size around 11,517 KB. It seems not to be compatible with XP/USB/Visor Deluxe.

Tried this link, which was informative.

Hope this helps.
