palettes stuck

I'm running CS2 on the latest osx and my palettes keep getting "stuck" – I can't move them, hide or turn them off, and none of the functions work. This happens in all CS2 applications and Quark...

Is it a problem with the OS? How can I stop it happening?

I had this happen to me in Illustrator. This was quite a while back, but I believe I just trashed Illy's prefs and everything was good. At the time I didn't have any problems with photoshop, but I don't have the whole suite. Not sure why this would also affect Quark.
