Hello all - I am currently fighting with a mystery of a problem....any help is greatly appreciated.

Here is the scenario:

We have two access points (Linksys WAP54G running latest firmware). One of the access points is a "primary" and runs just fine, however it only covers a portion of our office space. The second access point covers the second half of our office space and is setup to be a repeater of the primary. Here is a drawing:

(main side) AP1 - Switch1 ------- Switch2 - AP2 (far side)

With the above configuration, it seems like the two switches are creating a broadcast storm and tearing down everything on the switch! For a brief moment (about 5 mins) all access to local network resources and the internet are lost until the "storm" completes.

If I unplug the second AP, this this effect goes away.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why this may be occuring? Is it a bug in the Linksys implementation?

Many thanks in advance,

Sam

Hey,

I have heard that if u have 2 AP's set up close in repeater mode that the primary sends out a signal, the repeater repeats it in its area and then the primary recieves the signal from the repeater (wirelessly), hence a very big circle of traffic....

Not sure,

But a possibility, check over your settings, Perhaps it would be better if you make 2 different AP's (SSID's) and get rid of the repeater.

hmm, you know that is a good thought though.

I would imagine that is exactly what is happening.

right now what I've done is created two separate APs with the same SSID, same key, but different channels.

It isn't perfect, but it is working for now.

Problem is there is a slight disconnect when moving from one side of the office to the other, where as if the APs were in repeater mode, that disconnect doesn't exist - its just a smooth transition.

Different Channels are good but you do get the change over problem.

Is it possible for you to put a stronger antenna on one of the AP's instead of using 2 AP's?

I do infact have Higher strength antenna for one of the APs...the only reason I am hesitating is because the last time I attached the antenna the signal completely went away!

I am going to try it again, but on the off hours.
