"I have heard this 'older' version is free"
Ask the person who you heard it from - it doesn't sound very likely to me. If it were true, the JASC website would be a good place to start.
You might also want to keep an eye on the magazine stand, as old versions of packages often appear on cover CDs (in the UK anyway)
