Hope it is the correct forum

I have some months of experience with vmware player, so far I have installed sql servers and application servers on this plataform running over a 2008 r2 server – domain controller.

We are moving now to vsphere / Esxi and trying to recycle our work we are trying to convert this “player” images to “vpshere” images.

My first obstacle is disk size.
I was used to that if you don’t really use the whole virtual machine disk size, the system efficiently will use only the necessary space. (a production app / sql server would take about 12 GByte only)

But when installing / converting to vsphere / Esxi I realized that I need to have enough space as virtual machine total disk sizes, this shocked me,
Should be this more “bare metal” platform be more efficient in disk consumption? Or am I making a completely wrong configuration.

Is it possible to use just the needed disk? – where can I change this configuration?

Thanks for your patience!
