pagp and etherchannel

Cisco said pagp can setup etherchannel automatically . But how ?
I connect two switch with 2 cable,and it can't form etherchannel.
I remember dtp can form trunk if I connect two switch without config trunk manully.
If I code "channel 1 mode desirable",etherchannel will establish success.So what's the mean of setup etherchannel automatically ? And what's the difference between pagp learn-method and pagp port-priority and port-channel load-balance?
