Hello All,

I trying to create a short code that will also dial the paging zone. Currently have a analog user connected to the paging interface. Teachers dial the short code *55 then once the paging system answers they would dial the code for all page or a specific zone. Customer requested a code that would go straight to all page in case of emergency, ho would I achieve that with short code?

something like this? I don't have a paging zone controller to test with in house so I'd like to figure out where to start.

SC= *77
feature= dial
TN= *55D00#

*55 original paging SC
D= wait for answer
00= page all code in paging system

What is the paging equipment - most have an alternate input that will override the need to input a zone code. Create a 2nd analog station programmed as a paging port to connect to the alternate input for emergency all page

TTT I am still waiting on the paging system info, i think its a valcom system. I asked them to work with the paging vendor to give us an interface for direct all page and they said it couldn't be done... I don't believe them.

Schools usually have some complicated paging system with scheduled bells included. Last project I worked on like this, the school used Rauland Borg, which interfaced via a trunk port. Had to get a Rauland authorized vendor to engineer an interface that I could provide audio and a contact closure to achieve simultaneous paging. Complete pain, sales person to never promise that again!

Trunk port with a UPAM (Universal Access Paging Module) is usually a solid combination. It helps hang up the trunk port when the page is complete is my understanding. Whether that is happening or not when I use one my paging system works better than when I'm straight into a trunk port.

TouchtoneTommy also has a good idea but it is contingent on an over ride page input port on your amp or paging device.

Their paging vendor is probably wrong. Without details it is hard to tell. I used to work for a Rauland Borg dealership and also with Dukane. Most paging systems have some sort of back ground music input. We use this quite often for an input source that will bypass any zoning.
Most simple Valcom and Bogen systems have an over ride port. This is a trunk only interface designed to be able to put a simple 2500 analog set on someones desk lift and talk. This can be connected to an IPO tunk port with a trunk access short code.

If you are buying the UPAM it is a rebranded Bogen UTI1 which is about $50 cheapper than the Avaya.

The customer just got back to me with the model.

The Valcom Main Unit is a VCS-3, Amp is a Valcom V-6120.

From the VCS manual-- (Didn't specify the '3' part but it seems to be a general manual for the VCS system)

The 3 auxiliary inputs are inputs for program material such as
background music, automated announcements or any 8 to 600
ohm line level unbalanced audio source.

The lo-z microphone input is obviously included to accommodate
a low impedance microphone that may be used for general
announcements. If you include a microphone in your system, one
of the 6 switch inputs will be used to enable the microphone. This
switch input function is available in system programming.

The 6 switch inputs are software programmable to provide such
functions as tone activation, reset system time, night ring, activate
microphone, force schedule, etc.

So, it looks like the system is capable. You would need a Bogen UTI1 to provide the audio and contact closure. And a dedicated analog port off the system. The Valcom vendor would need to do the programming to associate the input contact to the UTI1.
