This is a new 8.1 IpOffice install ready to replace a Nortel Opt61
Paging currently working off a Nortel Analog Port. Cust just dials the extension and does zone paging
Given:
IpOffice Analog Ports;
6 Ports on via 2 Combo Cards
30 Ports via Exp 2 Module
Bizzare Issue #1
If I took ANY of the analog ports REGARDLESS of the programming, Standard, IVR, ect and plugged it into the Bogen, the port would immediately go OffHook on the IpOffice. A butt set on the Port heard Bogen answering with it's double beep-beep.
I mean every Analog port, right down the line.
If you connected a Phone instead of the Bogen to the ports, every port functioned perfectly!
Rebooting, Power cycling, re-pramming ports, nothing changed the symptom when connectiong to the Bogen.
Bizzare Issue #2
This took me a loooooong time for figure out...If you put a 50 ohm (actually a 100 ohm worked too)in series with the tip or ring (not both) and plugged into the Bogen. Voila!!! Paging worked flawlessly (Port programed as a User called PAGING and set to IVR)
Bizzare issue #3
Now I REMOVE the 50 ohm resistor from the circuit. Test again and magically, the port worked flawlessly connected to the Bogen.
I rebooted, power cycled multiple times to see if I could make it fail again. NOPE...perfect every time.
Bizzare issue #4
Now also magically, a small number of other analog ports on the Expansion module now do not go off hook as soon as you plug them into the Bogen. ALL analog ports of the Combo Cards still exibit the immediate off hook problem.
The Semi-Final Fix
Even though a now had a number of analog ports that would interface to the Bogen without going off hook immediately, I attached all the anaolg ports to the Bogen one at a time with the 50 ohm resitor in the circuit.
Now ALL analog ports could run the Bogen.
I rebooted and power cycled multiple times to see if I could break any of the ports. NOPE...all work fine
Final-Final Fix
I left the 50 ohm resistor in the one circuit I was going to use for paging just in case the ports go wacky again.
The resistor has no detrimental affect on the paging audio signal.
My two cents:
Given that the problem existed on both Combo cards and the Expansion Module I think the Bogen TIM card has an issue that draws a hair of current from the IpOffice port when plugged in and trips the off-hook condition. Maybe it's only this TIM card in this particular Bogen installation.
From the IpOffice perspective and have no flipping idea how a resistor IN and then OUT of the circuit permanently tricks out the IpOffice analog port. Maybe the ports "learn" a condition and adjust accordingly
I defer to the fact the IpOffice carton states: "HECHO EN CHINA"
.
Viking makes an FXI-1 paging interface that has a 600 ohm paging output. I have used one to connect an overhead paging system to an IP Office. It's small, cheap, and works well.
