We are able to page 5 remote locations each location has 5 2004 IP sets with fractional T1 (512k)for each remote site.
We also use the voice call feature with no issues. Keep in mind paging all sets eats up a lot of bandwidth.
Running BCM 400 3.6 with PRI
IP sets are completely different than IP trunks and I haven't ever been able to do voice call over IP trunks. I never have really spent much time trying to make it work though.
Voice call won't work over IP trunks - you would have to extension dial the person on the remote system. Paging is supposed to work, but I've never played with it.
In BCM boot camp we had paging working over IP trunks from a 7316E, so I know it does work. Don't ask me how we did it as I wasn't really paying attention as I didn't think I would ever have a use for it.
Anyone had any new experience with Paging over IP trunks.
The boot camp manual gives a good example using auto DN's, but I'm missing some little detail.
I have the routing and gateways set up, as well as remote package to allow paging over my IP trunks, but never get a dial tone from the remote auto DN to dial my *630.
paging over IP trunks is not supported.
it's in the book.
Auto DN does not support remote paging Marv you would have to use DISA DN. Even then paging over IP trunks is not supported.
Like I said it is in the book. BCM docs.
I have tried the same DISA DN in both MCDN over IP and MCDN over PRI. The application only works in MCDN OVER PRI or T1 E&M, or analog auto answer trunks with DISA enabled.
You can page over an IP phone but not an IP trunk.
aragon and acewarlock, Thank you both for the replies.
My documentation from boot camp shows it as do-able, but I've turned this inside out and cannot get it to function.
Is there any documentation from Nortel that quotes that it cannot be done since the training documentation quotes it as being possible and gives an example?
From page 303 of programming ops manual for BCM3.7
Not as conclusive as the 3.0 docs though.
But in direct opposition with a fine wine Nortel does not get better with age.
• Answer with DISA cannot be administer to voice over IP (VoIP), since they do not connect
systems outside the private network. However, a user calling in remotely on another system on
the network can use the trunk to access the system or a user calling in on a PSTN line can use
the trunk to access the private network. To provide control for this type of access, ensure that
you specify remote access packages for the trunk.
This also from 3.7 docs specifically IP Telephony guide
88 Chapter 5 Configuring local VoIP trunks
N0008591 02
You cannot program DISA for voice over IP (VoIP) trunks, therefore, you cannot use COS
passwords to remotely access features over your system. The exception to this would be a
tandemned call, where a call comes into system A over the PSTN, then tandems to system B
over an VoIP trunk. In this case, the remote access package set up for the COS password will
determine which system features are available to the caller.
This is also fun but from 3.0 manual page 364 of opps guide
Note: You cannot program DISA DN or Auto DN to a VoIP trunk, as they act as
auto-answer trunks.
However, you can configure VoIP line pools to remote access packages, so that callers can
access telephones or the local PSTN on remote nodes on a tandemed network that uses
VoIP links between systems.
And if you believe everything you hear from Nortel sales or Global Knowledge I have really great swampland in Florida for sale
And no I am not bitter. I have just moved on to better vendors. Had my fill of 15 years of Nortel support on an inferior product.
