Hi,
I want to get a message to my pager or cell phone from the system when system is ready to go down. For that what version of software I have to use. Shall I get any software for free?
Solaris used to have Sun Management Center that I downloaded for free for Solaris 7. I don't know if it is still free for newer versions.
I have it set up to send an email through our NT server when there is an alert. From there, if I wanted, I could have my mail system forward the email to a pager.
If you have Verizon Wireless as your cellular provider, you can send a short text message to your phone by just sending an email to your phone number at vtext.com. In other words, send an email to 1235551234@vtext.com. You can also register a name so you can send to MyName@VText.com. Of course you need Internet connectivity all the time for the mail to go through.
I downloaded and extracted sunmc_3.0_PU4_GA_Gold.tar, it looks more than 2.5GB file. Do I need to use modem for this? What are the steps I have to follow for configuration.
Untar the file. There should be a readme that will give you the instructions on how to load it. There also might be a directory with documentation in it. If there isn't, go to docs.sun.com, search on "Sun Mangement Center" and download the manual.
I run Sun Management Center without a modem. The alerts are sent to my local email account through the network.
