Everything works as desired so far. I have a Viking PA-30 and used a Bogen WMT1a and all I got was chatter out of the speaker. I switched to an old WMT1 and it worked as expected.

Is my WMT1a defective? Does that jumper inside the WMT1a do anything? I tested both units on another amplifier in advance with no issue.

The jumper determines if the output of the WMT1a is at a mic level or line level signal. Not really familiar with the Viking amp but I would think it would need a line level. It would also be possible it doesn't need the Bogan part at all if it is a true 600 ohm page input.

Without the wmt1 the port is in a busy state constantly. the brand new wmt1a is making the chatter.

Changing the jumper resulting in nothing out of the paging speaker (no audio, no chatter).

Having read the manual for the page unit. If you are using the page input it either needs a contact closure or it uses an adjustable VOX relay to activate which may be why it seems to be 'chattering' if not properly adjusted. You may want to consider using a trunk port instead.
