paging file errors

My Win2000 OS has recently started alerting me at startup, that the paging file
system is not present, or is too small. I then go to “systems properties”, “advanced”
tab, “performance options” to look at the settings for the paging file. In the “performance
options” screen, the paging file size shows at 20 MB. When I click on “change” to
set the paging file size, the initial size shows 600 MB and the maximum size shows
1600 MB. I even went in to the registry with regedt32 and the settings were correct. I have reset these settings several times and each time I restart my PC the same alert happens. The performance of my system is slower, and I have experienced apps crashing due to fatal errors, and spontaneous shut downs. I either need to fix this or go for the fresh install as a last resort. :(

Please any help would be greatly appreciated Johnny

Have you more than one HDD partition? If there is, my instinct would prompt me to create a paging file on that partition and remove the existing paging file.
N.B. Defragment the partition you intend to create the new paging file on first.

Restart the machine and see if an improvement is evident. I assume that you wish your paging partition to be on the partition it is presently on. If so, do the reverse of what I have suggested above. Again, first defragment the partition which will hold the new paging file.

As a last resort, I would resize the problem paging file and make initial and maximum sizes the same. If this does not succeed, I would also be inclined to do a fresh installation.

Euston:

I kind of have the same problem, just that I didn't saw it that way, of the paging size.

I did have some paging size errors a looong time ago... then after I started having BS on memory dumps, a bunch of shutdowns when playing Empire Earth and when Online. Another bunch of different errors, troubles booting up, creations of File.00? folders on my C: drive and so on. To mention some of the most common (as per Event Viewer) are:

IPNATHLP - The Network Address Translator (NAT) was unable to request an operation of the kernel-mode translation module. This may indicate misconfiguration, insufficient resources, or an internal error. The data is the error code.

And multiple variations of this one when playing Empire Earth: NV - GR SW Notify Error on Channel=0x00000001 Class=0x00000096 Offset=0x00000d20

My PC is a custom AMD Duron 1GHz, 654 SDRAM PC133, 40GB Western Digital partitioned as 30GB C: and 10GB D:, nVidia gForce2 MX400, Phillips CDRW, Sound Blaster Live! and of course, Windows 2000 with no Service Pack to my knowledge.

Hope this information helps.. and that you could help me!

Thanks, Reg.
