Paging by Alphabet

I know this has been done and probably posted many times but I have not been able to find it.

How do I display results by Alphabet?

For example

On top of a page, A | B | C | D | etc.

Person clicks C
and everything with an UserID beginning with C shows on that page.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.
