[Pages] displaying wrong value

I've got a report which can generate a very large amount of pages. I've not had any problems with it before, but I recently tried it with the largest table (270Mb) I've yet used with it.
This created a report of over 30,000 pages.
However the 'Page [Page] of [Pages]' did not display correctly. The [Pages] value was -31212. The [Page] value on the last page was 34324. The [Page] value appeared to display correctly on all pages (by checking random pages), but the [Pages] value always displayed the same, wrong, value.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
