I am using PageMaker 7.0 to produce an 800 page book, a "Who's Who" type publication that will contain distinct profile information exported from a database (Lotus Notes OQ) into an Excel spreadsheet and then imported into PageMaker (one record for a two page spreaad). My question is, can I realistically use the new Data Merge capabality to effectively and efficiently layout the info with defined text styles and locations in PM. I tried it yesterday, and it placed the information; however, I had problems with text overlapping--are there text frames or boxes that can contain it's own text yet accomodate it at the same time, without running into other text boxes??? I want to create a master document with the headings, where I can then just place the data merge fields under those headings and have the text layout without running into other headings. The profiles also include photos exported from Photshop, what is the best format to use and the best way to import them into Pagemaker--through data merge or place command? Any other advice, tips, and effective ways to approach the project would be great--and what is the difference between using a template as opposed to a master document? Also, When I tried the data merge it produced blank pages between records??? Also, any recommendations on what size batches to work with...
