Pagemaker won't pick up a font that windows show is there

Reduce the number of active fonts.
PM is very sensitive to too many active fonts. Do you use any font managers? If so, you should deactivate some of your fonts if you have more than a couple of 100 in the Windows>Fonts folder. (Deactivating is NOT the same as deleting /removing fonts from the Fonts folder and can only be done with a font manager).
