Hi folks,

I use PM6.5 in WinXP SP2 all Spanish.
When I try to open a PM document, the program hangs for one minute or more, after that the document is opened normally.
But, when I disconnect the ethernet cable, this problem never happens again; I try this on 4 differents PCs and always get the same issue.
May be PM is checking the network for other software installed? I remember Mac's Photoshop to do that.

Any idea???? Thank you.

1. It's possible that somewhere there is a link to a network file which no longer exists, e.g. in the Recent Publications list.

2. PM pre-dates networks, and all files including linked files should be a local drive.

3. Adobe do not support PM6.5 on WinXP as it not developed for it.

Thank you SlimJohnD! you made a *goal* on this:
"It's possible that somewhere there is a link to a network file which no longer exists..."

This was the problem. But I can't get PM to avoid keeping links (in new documents I always use file incrustation and no external files) Why PM keeps saving the links to those files and causes me this issue?.

By now PM & XP works fine to me in several PCs.

Best regards!

PM is not very network savvy.

You could try deleting all the PM configuration files (*.cnf) after saving the existing ones for backup purposes. There's four of them I think. PM will create the "out of the box" defaults next time it's loaded. You'll lose any custom settings, but it might clear any hidden links.

To re-create the PageMaker preferences file.
The default location for the PageMaker preferences file, Pm70.cnf (PageMaker 7.x) or Pm65.cnf (PageMaker 6.5x), is:
\Program Files\Adobe\PageMaker[version]\RSRC\[language].
