Hi,
I am currently busy with a custom application for my company that requires text and images to be copied from pagemaker documents. The problem is when we copy Text or Images from Pagemaker into the application, when you return to Pagemaker and zoom into a document the pagemaker document's display corrupts. Causing you to shutdown pagemaker and open it again.

Any suggestions?

Hi, Telephus,

I'm not sure I follow.

You copy text and images from PM into a custom application, and then next time you open PM publication and zoom, PM produces an error, forcing shut down?

This sounds like a vid card driver issue.

But first, PM Win or PM Mac?
Which version of PM and which version of your OS?

And I suspect you would be be better off importing images into your custom app from the original image file, e.g. *.TIFF or *.EPS.

Hi, BigJohnD

It's Pagemaker 7.0 PC Version, tested on Win98 & Win2000.
The custom app & Pagemaker are running at the same time. It's when you Alt + Tab between the two and then zoom into the current pagemaker doc that things go wrong.

I also thought it was a vid card driver at first, updated vid drivers, even tried a different vid card. Been able to reproduce the problem on 4 different pc's.

Hi, Telephus,

PM7 on Win2K is about as stable as it gets IMO.

I stick by my suggestion of importing your images into your custom app as originals rather than copying them off the PM page. That technique works well within PM but the Windows clipboard has limitations, and, at a guess, may be part of the problem.

What format are the images? *.EPS? *.TIFF? *.PSD?

As for copying the text from PM to your custom app, the windows clipboard should handle it OK. If you have problems, copy the text into Notepad first to strip out all the formatting.

Weird.

Hi BigJohnD,

The images are Tiff images, we also tried jpg recently.
The text is working perfectly, just the images that cause the prob.

Would it work if I used OLE instead of the Clipboard for copying the images?

Thanks T

Hi, Telephus,

If you're working in a postscript environment (e.g. making PDFs) or considering pssing the publication on to someone else, forget it. OLE is really exclusive to MS Office - other apps only include the facility to get MS Approval to run in windows.

Is there some reason why you have to copy from PM? Why can you not use the original *.TIF or *.JPG?
