I'm merging names and addresses into a legal size letter using Pagemaker 7 for Mac. The letter contains graphics too, and I'm printing out on a color laser printer (Phaser 7700 - rated 20ppm). My data source is large (43,000 records). I'm trying to merge and print, and it is very sloo What must I do to optimize processing and print speeds?

I don't know of much you can do on the PM end to speed things up, but if you mess with printer options you may speed things up. Your best bet may to find a forum for your printer and ask there. The 20ppm would be based on 20 of the SAME document... and the time would not begin from when you pushed the print button but rather when the first page was fed in the printer until the last page came out the fuser door. So do not expect anything like 22ppm with your job. Each copy, as far as your printer is concerned, is a uninque single copy run. You may be pushing your printer to its limits with this sort of job. When in doubt, deny all terms and defnitions.
