I have a 14 page newsletter, the mailing area is on the last page. When I merge the mailing label everything seems to work fine, BUT sometimes formatting messes up on PREVIOUS pages. In my current issue I have a paragraph on page 2 that reformatted, and one on page 9 that reformatted. Luckily this month it was not a major problem. However, sometimes this reformatting causes overwriting or text falling off the page. (I have tried both with and without a text frame - same results.)

Can someone give me some clues or answers to what the problem is? Why is inserting a label on the last page causing errors on previous pages? Is my problem with the mail merge or the way I am formatting the rest of my newsletter?

Thanks for any help you can give me, this is driving me crazy.

Mac or Win? Which versions of PM?

A shot in the dark is para styles/test formatting.

Re-composition isues are usually related to the "Compose to printer" set in File -> Document Setup.
Check that this is correct and is the printer you will be using.

Also check for problems using the Diagnostic recompose:

a. Deselect all objects by clicking the pointer tool in the toolbox.
b. Hold down Shift+Ctrl, and choose Type > Hyphenation.

Note: When the diagnostic recompose finishes, the computer beeps or the menus blink to indicate the results:
- One beep or blink: PageMaker found no problems.
- Two beeps or blinks: PageMaker repaired one or more minor problems.
- Three beeps or blinks: PageMaker found a severe problem it couldn't correct, or it couldn't complete the diagnostic recompose because of insufficient memory.

Thanks for the help!

I have verified that the printer is correct.

And the Diagnostic recompose responded with one flash.

So, even though I did learn something it did not solve my problem.

I guess it is just back to merging data manually.

Data merge is tricky and these formatting glytches hard to locate.

It could be a minor formating issue in the data.
